The bulk of Tennessee’s starting pitching rotation this season have been invited to join the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this summer.
Sophomore Chase Dollander and freshman duo Drew Beam and Chase Burns make up the three selections. This continues a streak of Vols selected to the team after Blade Tidwell received the nod in 2021. Current White Sox regular Garrett Crochet was invited in 2019.
Dollander, Beam and Burns each threw important innings at the Knoxville Regional this past weekend. Dollander started against Campbell and Burns pitched 1.1 innings before handing it off to Redmond Walsh to finish the Fighting Camels off. Burns allowed just one run to cross in his 1.1 innings of work.
Beam was Tennessee’s Sunday starter against Georgia Tech. The freshman RHP threw two solid innings to start before giving up four runs across the next two.
Dollander, Beam and Burns have contributed to Tennessee’s nation-leading ERA of 2.38 this season, with Dollander winning the SEC Pitcher of the Year award as a result. Burns earned third-team All-America honors as a freshman, the first to do so since R.A. Dickey in 1994.
Beam’s freshman campaign earned some notoriety as well. He earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors with a 2.72 ERA across a team-high 15 starts.
The trio combined for a 25-1 record over 41 starts.
