Tennessee baseball has landed a commitment from coveted Kansas transfer Maui Ahuna.
Ahuna, a rising junior from Hilo, Hawaii, was a star for the Jayhawks and is a projected early-round pick in the MLB draft. The 6-foot-1 shortstop had a strong year in 2022, totaling 42 runs, 80 hits and 8 home runs on the season.
On Thursday, head coach Tony Vitello spoke about Tennessee’s sales pitch to transfers such as Ahuna.
“One thing people like is we’re incredibly black and white,” Vitello said. “We get our recruits who are courting around our players so they can hear it straight from their mouth. One thing you’ll hear from our players, they enjoy, like the coaches like working around each other, it’s an environment where everyone enjoys being.”
Tennessee plays Notre Dame at 6 p.m. Friday with a chance to get back to the College World Series just two wins away.
