Tennessee basketball will face a familiar opponent in this upcoming season’s installment of the SEC/Big 12 challenge.
The Texas Longhorns, coached by Chris Beard and once coached by current Vols coach Rick Barnes, will travel to Knoxville in a rematch of last season’s low-scoring affair that saw Texas come out on top.
The battle of the two UT’s will be held in January. The Vols also face non-conference opponents such as Maryland and Arizona, with the rest of the schedule a mystery as of now.
The Longhorns saw an offseason of significant turnover. Texas lost longtime stars Andrew Jones and Courtney Ramey and will be without Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen, who spent one year in Austin after transferring for the 2021-22 season.
Tennessee has seen less turnover removed from Texas’ win last season. The Vols lost star freshman point guard Kennedy Chandler and fan-favorite John Fulkerson. Less importantly, the Vols lost Brandon Huntley-Hatfield to Louisville and Justin Powell to Washington State.
