Class of 2023 receiver Aidan Mizell is fresh off not one, but two visits to Tennessee in the past three weeks.
His first was unofficial, during Tennessee’s ‘Rocky Topalooza’ event in late May. Mizell, a four-star receiver out of Boone High School in Orlando, must have enjoyed his stay with fellow Vols prospects, because he came back for an official visit on June 10. Tennessee certainly is pleased with fact that Mizell is still interested in playing college football in Knoxville. Why? We’ll get to that scouting report below.
Chris Landry of LandryFootball.com is intrigued by Mizell’s potential fit in Tennessee’s fast-paced offense.
“He’s a lean receiver with really good long speed,” Landry said on Chalk Talk Tuesday. “He’s outstanding after the catch which really is a big part of what they do in this offense, in every offense but particularly in this one.”
Mizell, the No 114 player per 247SPorts composite rankings, is ranked as the No. 18 receiver in the country and the No. 14 player in the state of Florida. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound speedster could be deadly in a system that likes to take quick strikes down the field.
And though Hendon Hooker will likely be playing in the NFL by the time Mizell announces his college destination, Tayven Jackson or five-star 2023 recruit Nico Iamaleava would have a field day with a receiver like him on outside. The Tennessee offense is stockpiling on guys with speed.
“He’s fast. I mean, he’s a track guy, he’s one of the best sprinters in the 400 meters, you see that long stride in the open field, he can pull away from defenders in the second level,” Landry said. “But he’s got that slippery, shifty ability that a lot of long speed guys don’t have. I Like his quickness and initial movements, after the catch. (I) Like his contact balance with the ball in his hands. Tracks the ball pretty well in the vertical routes.”
Mizell is a sought-after commodity for the reasons listed above. The ability to strike fast is a valuable one in the constantly evolving game of college football, and schools such as Alabama, Georgia and Florida have caught his attention.
Mizell released his Top 7 schools on Twitter just before his unofficial visit to Tennessee. The list included the Vols, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, UCF and USC.
Home state schools such as UCF and especially Florida were considered to be Mizell’s early favorites, but the Vols have made strides as of late and Mizell has many more options than he once did.
“He’s got a background in the state of Florida but he’s interested in Tennessee because of their offense and the playmaking ability of receivers, you play a lot, you play a lot of downs. It’s fun offense, those guys are intrigued by Tennessee.”
Mizell currently has official visits planned to Georgia on Friday and Alabama next Friday June 24.
Tennessee is also making strides on five-star 2023 receiver out of IMG Academy Carnell Tate. Considered the No. 2 receiver in the country, Tate has already announced he knows where he will commit and will be doing so, “Within the next two weeks.” per his personal Instagram.
