Tennessee has two big recruiting weekends this month that should solidify the Vols’ 2023 class, which is expected to rank within the top 10 nationally. The Vols will host a monster weekend of solid prospects on July 24. However, the group coming to Knoxville this weekend shouldn’t be overlooked.
Here are the seven official visitors that the Vols will host this weekend:
Rickey Gibson
Gibson, a three-star cornerback from Hewitt-Trussville High School in Trussville, Ala., is thought to be leaning towards Tennessee and Arkansas. The 6-foot, 170-pound athlete has also been recruited by some smaller schools. This wouldn’t be a big splash if the Vols landed Gibson based on his recruiting ranking, so Tennessee’s evaluation of him will be key.
C.J. Allen
Allen’s college interests are varied. The four-star linebacker from Lamar County Comprehensive in Barnesville, Ga., has shown interest in Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Southern California. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound athlete is thought to leaning towards becoming a Bulldog. Things could change after this weekend, but this is an uphill battle.
Ryqueze McEldry
McEldry is already committed to Georgia. However the Vols still hold out hope. Why? Because McEldry could be a dominant force in college. McEldry is a massive presence on the line of scrimmage. The 6-3, 340-pound offensive lineman has also seen strong interest from Auburn and Alabama, who many believe are ahead of the Vols in this race for McEldry. Still, the Vols haven’t relented. An official visit could change a lot.
Colbie Young
Colbie, a wide receiver from Lackawanna Community College in Scranton, Penn., is thought to be leaning towards Miami, Pittsburgh and Virginia. However, the opportunity to come in and be a part of Tennessee coach Josh Hepeul’s offense will be appealing for the 6-4, 220-pound wideout. When it comes to receivers, many think Tennessee is the place to be.
T.J. Searcy
Searcy may already be out of Tennessee’s reach, but that doesn’t mean the Vols aren’t going to continue to try. Most think the 6-5, 250-pound defensive lineman from Upton-Lee High School in Thomaston, Ga., will end up at South Carolina. Clemson, Florida and Auburn are also in the hunt. It will be interesting to see what he says after a trip to Knoxville this weekend when the Vols can roll out the Big Orange carpet.
Stanton Ramil
Ramil is growing into the kind of player that coaches dream about. He’s a long, rangy offensive lineman that figures to only fill out his 6-7, 310-pound frame. Michigan State, Auburn and Arkansas have also been in the hunt, but the Vols are thought to be in good position to land the four-star prospect. Don’t be surprised if he commits to the Vols after this weekend.
Cam Seldon
Seldon is thought to be leaning towards Tennessee. However, Penn State, Virginia and Maryland are also in the mix. The 6-1, 220-pound receiver could well commit to the Vols this weekend or shortly thereafter. The four-star athlete from Northumberland High School in Heathsville, Va. would be a strong addition to the Vols class.
