Recruiting Roundup: Social Media Has Been Buzzing After A Weekend Of Visits

Tennessee was one of many schools that hosted a substantial amount of top-flight prospects last weekend. That means things are starting to shake out in the accelerated recruiting cycle.

The Vols received two commitments from defensive back John Slaughter of Southaven (Miss.) High School, who could be better than his recruiting ranking would indicate, and linebacker Jeremiah Telander from Gainesville (Ga.) High School, who has the instincts to help the Vols soon after he enrolls in the 2023 class.

The Vols also improved their standing with several higher rated prospects, such as offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The five-star prospect announced that Tennessee was among his final list of suitors and that he would announce his decision on July 4. Alabama, Florida and Miami are thought to be the strongest suitors for Mauigoa.

Here are three social media posts that have surfaced this week that will affect the Vols:

Down to four

Tyree Weathersby from New Manchester High School in Douglasville, Ga., is down to Tennessee, Mississippi State, Kentucky and South Carolina. The 6-foot-4, 251-pound defensive lineman is being recruited by UT defensive line coach Rodney Garner, who is considered one of the Vols’ most respected recruiters.

Down to seven

Samuel M’Pemba said he would announce his final seven schools soon. It’s unclear just where the Vols stand for the 6-3, 240-pound edge rusher from IMG Academy. The five-star prospect is thought to be leaning towards Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are trying to hold off Alabama and Florida. This is probably a long shot for the Vols, but definitely worth watching.

Down to three

Five-star edge rusher Chandavian Bradley announced he was down to three schools on Monday.

The 6-foot-4 defensive wunderkind is the No. 3 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 1 overall player in the state of Missouri. Tennessee currently holds a crystal ball for Bradley.
