Tennessee is still in the running for cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson. However, the battle for his services is far from over.
The four-star cornerback from Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fla., announced via social media that he is down to six schools: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Penn State and Tennessee. Jackson is expected to make his decision by the end of the month. Jackson took his official visit to Tennessee last weekend.
Here is what analyst Chris Landry of Landryfootball.com had to say about Jackson:
“Has the length everyone wants these days with a thin, wiry frame….. Didn’t get a ton of snaps on defense as a junior after starting (the) season off working primarily with the wide receivers, but ended up totalling three interceptions in four games……Is quick with his read and recognition skills……Competes hard to the catch point…..like his hand usage in press coverage but struggles with his footwork some off the line of scrimmage at this point….Need to improve his upper body strength and play better in run support…..Like his long range potential and natural skills.”
Landry’s assessment should excite whichever fan base lands Jackson. He can work on his upper-body strength and footwork in college. However, he certainly has the ability to play cornerback in the SEC and likely excel. Jackson is expected to make his decision in July.
Jackson, who is 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, is ranked as the No. 250 prospect in the country, the No. 28 cornerback in the country and the No. 52 player from Florida.
