Recruiting Roundup: Three prospects that are on Tennessee’s radar

Recruiting has understandably taken a backseat as high school teams and college football programs prepare for their upcoming season. However, college football recruiting never really stops. Some recent Tennessee recruiting news is proof of that.

The Vols appear to be in great position to land one prospect in the near future and two other former Tennessee prospects have opened up their options.

Let’s start with Rickey Gibson. The cornerback from Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) High School was recently predicted to chose the Vols over several other schools, including the nearby Georgia Bulldogs. That would be a significant recruiting win for the Vols considering Georgia is recruiting as well as anyone in the nation.

Gibson, a 6-foot, 171-pound prospect, is listed as a three-star prospect. However, that ranking figures to improve considering Georgia has shown so much interest lately. Gibson recently named Tennessee, Georgia and Penn State as his leaders.

The Vols might find themselves back in another recruiting battle for Tomarrion Parker, who announced he was no longer committed to Penn State.

The Vols were in the running with the Nittany Lions for Parker, who is a four-star defensive lineman prospect from Phenix City (Ala.) High School. Parker, who is 6-4 and 250 pounds, took an official visit to Tennessee in October so there was some interest. However, Florida is thought to have the current lead in light of Parker’s de-commitment.

Tennessee could decide to pursue cornerback Bravion Rogers. The four-star prospect from LaGrange (Texas) High School announced that he was no longer committed to Texas A&M via social media.

It’s unclear how interested either party may be in a Tennessee-Rogers matchup since the 5-10, 185-pound prospect has been committed to the Aggies since April. However, there is clearly an opportunity for another school to jump in the mix. Alabama is well worth watching and will be a tough opponent for any school trying to woo the No. 39 player in the nation.
