Tennessee picked up a surprising commitment on Monday when Jordan Matthews announced his decision to become a Vol. The four-star prospect had long been thought to be leaning towards Texas.
Instead, Matthews announced he would be attending Tennessee, per multiple media reports. The 6-foot, 165-pound cornerback from Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, La., was also considering Michigan and, to a lessor extent, Stanford and Alabama.
Matthews is Tennessee’s 21st commitment of the 2023 class. The Vols rank 11th in the nation in recruiting and fifth in the SEC. However, that recruiting ranking is certain to rise with Matthews on board and more commitments likely on the way.
