LaFratta’s Locks: Week One College Football Picks

The long-awaited 2022 season is here and the only thing that’s better than spending an entire Saturday watching college football is making money while you do it. So without further ado, let’s look at some spreads that I feel good about heading into the first week:

  • ULM +37.5

After going 5-7 last season and without Arch Manning in the mix just yet, Texas isn’t “back”. The rumors going around about the impact of boosters on the choice of starting Ewers at QB makes me think that a 37.5 spread is going to be too difficult for the Longhorns to cover.

  • Texas A&M -31

After the Saban/Jimbo fiasco, expect the Aggies to come out swinging – scoring a ton of points on this cupcake opponent. Like Urban Meyer, Fisher believes that the more points you hang on the scoreboard the better, even if it’s a team that your third string could handle with ease.  I normally don’t go with a 31-point favorite at the beginning of the season, but Jimbo’s coaching style makes me think this is a lock.

  • Utah -2.5

Going into the Swamp to upset the Gators is never an easy feat; however, this isn’t your typical Florida team. With a brand-new coach in a rebuilding season, look to the Gators to drop a few games in the first half of 2022. I would honestly be surprised if Florida didn’t have 3 losses after playing Tennessee. This wasn’t the best year to schedule Utah.

LSU -3.5

LSU kicks of its season in a Sunday night game (weird, right?) in Death Valley against Florida State. The mixture of Brian Kelly’s hype as the new head coach, hosting a sub-par ACC opponent in Death Valley, and the excitement for the first game of the season makes for a dangerous cocktail of rowdy Tiger fans. There’s no way that the Seminoles get out of there with less than a 7-point loss.

If you’re feeling frisky:

Oregon +16

The first game of the 2022 season will be a test for the completely rebuilt Georgia defense and will show just how good it is. I’ve gone on record as stating that the Bulldogs will struggle this season, but this game will be the telling sign.

*I am an avid college football fan, not a Vegas expert. Due to my insane love of college football, I’ve been fairly successful in betting on it. I have put my money on the spreads mentioned above for week one.
