Tennessee Football Recruiting: Four-star WR shares his official visit schedule

Tennessee is looking for another receiver to fill out its 2023 class. Traylon Ray would be a good fit.

The 6-foot-1, 186-pound receiver will take his official visit to Knoxville on Oct. 15 for the Alabama game. Before that, the four-star prospect will visit West Virginia this weekend, per a report by GoVols247. Ray announced earlier this month that he was down to Tennessee, the Mountaineers and Mississippi State.

That’s certainly a unique list for the prospect from North Florida Christian in Tallahassee, Fla. One would think the Vols would stand more than a fighter’s chance against the other finalists in line for Ray. Tennessee has one of the more prominent up-and-coming programs in the nation. The Vols are 2-0 with a win on the road against a ranked team and, in case you hadn’t heard, have an offense that is very receiver friendly.

Given that Ray has over 20 scholarship offers, it’s no wonder that he was winning local awards during his junior season in 2022:

In addition to being a bit more prominent than West Virginia and Mississippi State, the Vols should also have the advantage of offering Ray a scholarship early in his recruitment. Tennessee extended the scholarship offer over six months ago. The Vols only have two receivers committed for the 2023 class, although there are some “athlete” prospects that might end up at receiver. Is there room for Ray? Certainly.
