Tennessee continues to skyrocket up the college football rankings. The Vols have now moved up in both the AP and AFCA Coaches Poll for four consecutive weeks. The Vols beat Florida 38-33 in Knoxville on Saturday to improve their record to 4-0 and further strengthen their resume for voters in both polls.
Tennessee is ranked No. 8 and No. 9 in the AP and Coaches Poll, respectively. It’s the first time that the Vols have been in the top 10 since Oct. 2016. Tennessee last earned the No. 8-ranking in Oct. 2006 when it also took the eighth spot going into a matchup with LSU, per UT’s Sports Information Department. Though the Vols have an open week, they will be back in action on Oct. 8 when Tennessee travels to LSU.
The latest ranking marks the fifth time that a team coached by Josh Heupel has been ranked in the Top 10. The Vols had to hold on for dear life to beat Florida on Saturday after holding a double-digit lead for most of the second half.
