It’s not very often you see a prospect pick up several offers from Power 5 programs in a single week, but this four-star picked up 13 in the span of just six days.
Since switching from running back to linebacker, Arion Carter of Smyrna High School in Smyrna, TN, has turned heads as of late. So far this season, Carter has two forced fumbles, three sacks, and 29 tackles through Smyrna’s first four games, impressing college coaches.
After his visit to Alabama and receiving an offer from the Crimson Tide, the 6-foot-1 and 210-pound prospect offer’s began rolling in.
Not only did Carter witness Tennessee’s first win against Florida since 2016, but he also received an offer from the Volunteers during his visit to Knoxville on Sept. 19. It’s safe to say Carter was impressed with his experience in Neyland Stadium and on campus.
“The tailgating was crazy,” Carter told Rivals247. “The fan base is ridiculous. When we got there, it was packed. It was hard to walk around. Right outside the building, where everybody was, it was just crowded, packed as ever. That’s the most I’ve ever seen — like, people around for a football game…It really was up there. In the different schools that I have been able to go to, and the games I’ve been to, it’s definitely up there — especially with the fan base and the way the game was going, and the way they kept their composure when things went back and things were doing good.”
Although Carter has been verbally committed to Memphis since July 20, he plans to continue visiting other universities. He is expected to head to Auburn when they host LSU on Saturday, as well as return to Knoxville when the Volunteers host the Crimson Tide on Oct 15.
Carter will be a name to watch as the recruiting cycles for the class of 2023 winds down. Although he remains firm in his commitment to Memphis, don’t be surprised if he flips his commitment before Early Signing Day due to all of the recent interest of prominent programs.
