Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel confirmed that receiver Cedric Tillman underwent surgery on his ankle in hopes of returning to the lineup as quickly as possible. However, there was no update as to when Tillman might return.

Tillman underwent a procedure known as Knotless Syndemosis Tightrope Implant, which is more commonly referred to as “tightrope” surgery. The timeline for a return from that surgery is typically about a month. Tillman suffered the injury against Akron on Sept. 17.

“Cedric did have surgery,” Heupel said. “The timeline, he did that just (because) he had an opportunity to speed up the recovery process side of it. We’ll see where he’s at. He was limited, but moving around a little bit today. We’ll continue to see how it unfolds this week and see where we’re at.”
