Tennessee’s secondary has been a cause of concern thus far, and the Volunteers are looking to lock up some depth in the class of 2023.
Three-star prospect Tyler Scott decommitted from Arkansas State Sunday, reopening his recruitment.
Tennessee extended Scott a scholarship offer on Sept. 29.
Although Scott is early on in his recruitment with Tennessee, he has a family connection on the team. His cousin is Tennessee freshman wide receiver Kaleb Webb. Scott announced his offer from Tennessee via twitter with a picture of Webb.
“We’re close. We stay in touch,” Scott told Rivals247 about his cousin. “(He says) it’s a good school (and) I’d play early.”
The 6-foot-2 and 185-pound defensive back has picked up several scholarship offers since beginning his senior season. He received scholarship offers from Missouri, Vanderbilt and Auburn in August. South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia have extended Scott scholarship offers since Sept. 21, prompting his decommitment from Arkansas State.
Scott was in Auburn for the Tigers’ matchup with Penn State on Sept. 17. It appears that Auburn is high on his list so far in his recruitment process. He is expected to visit Alabama as the Crimson Tide host Texas A&M.
Scott would be a much needed addition to Tennessee’s secondary. Although he plays safety in high school, he’ll likely be a cornerback in college. Tennessee is giving up an average of 309.25 passing yards per game, ranking last in the SEC. They gave up 453 yards to Anthony Richardson and Florida in the last game they played.
Scott attends Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, GA. In his junior season, Scott had 25 total tackles and five pass breakups, helping lead his school to the playoffs.
Scott still has five official visits available, and he plans to use them all. He will be a name to follow as early signing day approaches in December.
