Tennessee’s 40-13 win over LSU was impressive by any standard, including historically.
The Vols now have four wins against a ranked opponent under head coach Josh Heupel, who took over Tennessee’s struggling program before the 2021 season. LSU was ranked No. 25 in the nation before being dismantled by the Vols. UT was 3-7 in 2020 before firing former UT coach Jeremy Pruitt. It’s safe to say the Vols are in much better hands now.
Heupel’s four wins over a ranked opponent are the most in a UT head coach’s first two seasons since former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer achieved the same level of success in 1992-1993.
Today’s @Vol_Football win was the fourth win vs. a ranked opponent for HC Josh Heupel with the #Vols. That’s the most wins over ranked teams in the first two seasons to start a UT career since Phillip Fulmer had four from 1992-93. #GBO
