As it turns out, Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker didn’t even have to finish the season to be named the Associated Press offensive SEC player of the year. Hooker nabbed all but one vote to secure the award, which was announced on Monday.
Hooker, receiver Jalin Hyatt and offensive tackle Darnell Wright were named to the Associated Press first-team for the 2022 season. Tennessee defensive end Byron Young was named to the second-team.
Of the 15 voters, Hooker was tabbed as the first-team quarterback and player of the year in the SEC on all but one ballot. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young received one vote for both awards.
