SEC games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel knows that, and he’s made an effort to recruit on the line.
One of the prospects Heupel went after was local prospect Trevor Duncan. Here are five things to know about him.
Where Duncan ranks
Duncan is a three-star prospect across the board. He can play both offensive and defensive lines, but he will most likely end up on the defensive side of the ball for Tennessee football. He measures out at 6-foot-5.5 and 277-pounds.
247Sports ranks Duncan as the No. 43 athlete and No. 22 prospect from Tennessee.
ON3 holds Duncan as the No. 38 offensive tackle in his class and the No. 13 prospect from Tennessee.
Rivals puts Duncan as the No. 30 prospect in Tennessee.
The decision to choose Tennessee football
Tennessee football extended Duncan a scholarship offer in July 2021 during the Vols’ “Rocky Top Palooza” event. Duncan verbally committed to the Vols in April.
Duncan attended four home games this season, and he took an official visit on Dec. 2nd.
Duncan’s older brother, Cody, walked on at Virginia Tech and was a Hokie before recently entering the transfer portal. The Hokies reached out to Trevor Duncan, but he was Tennessee through and through.
Duncan chose the Vols over Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech, among others.
The numbers
It’s hard to quantify offensive line play, but Duncan was very successful on the defensive side of the ball for Catholic High School in Knoxville.
Despite battling a foot injury for most of the season, Duncan finished with 24 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble.
What does Coop say?
Tennessee football center Cooper Mays also attended Knoxville Catholic High School. While Mays’ career for the Irish was wrapping up, he watched Duncan, as a freshman, give Catholic quality snaps on the defensive line.
It didn’t take long for Mays to realize the special talent of Duncan.
“The kid had arms that went down to his knees and he was like 6’5”,” Mays told Off The Hook. “I was like this kid’s going to be special. I knew he was really long and lanky but I could tell if he’d filled out his frame, he was going to be a force to be reckoned with and you see he has. I mean he’s frickin huge. The kid’s a stud…
“I’ve watched a bit of his tape, and he’s a strong kid. He’s a big physical guy.”
Duncan is strong indeed and moves heavy weights around with ease.
Why Tennessee football?
Duncan is a Knoxville native, so when Tennessee football came calling it was an easy choice. Like many kids in East Tennessee, one day wearing the Orange and White is a dream that only so many get to achieve.
“The reason I committed is because I grew up here and I always wanted to play at Neyland Stadium,” Duncan told VolsWire. “I dreamed of being a Vol, and I dreamed of wearing the orange and white.”
