Former Texas offensive lineman Andrej Karic announced he will be transferring to Tennessee football. Karic appeared in all 12 games for Texas at right tackle, but was the second choice.
Karic tweeted out on Monday “Recruitment closed.” He also posted on Instagram with the caption “ili jesi ili nisi. #GBO.”
Karic was in Knoxville this past weekend on an official visit. Obviously, Glen Elarbee and Josh Heupel showed the prospect what he wanted to see in Knoxville this weekend.
His addition comes at a much-needed time.
Darnell Wright, Tennessee’s starting right tackle, announced his intentions to enter the draft. With the loss of Wright, the Vols were left searching for depth at the right tackle position.
Wright finished the 2022 season without allowing a sack in 829 offensive snaps. He was a crucial part of an offense that led the FBS in yards per game.
Wright accepted an invite to the senior bowl and has played himself into being a day-two draft pick.
Karic could have an immediate impact for Tennessee football in Wright’s place. He measures out at 6-foot-4 and 296-pounds and was ranked as a four-star prospect in the 2020 class.
In his scouting report from 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks, Karic drew a comparison to the Cowboys’ Connor Williams.
“Somewhat lean, athletic offensive lineman with tackle experience whose lack of length may force him inside long-term,” Brooks writes. “Quick-footed and aggressive. Plays very hard with a mean streak that even shows in practices. Has faced great competition relative to high school level. Gets to the second level with relative ease when required. Shows athleticism to mirror edge speed in pass pro. Lacks ideal wingspan for a true tackle. Can improve hand placement consistency. Must continue to add bulk and strength to maximize frame. Motor runs very high, but added punch power will help block-finishing ability. Tackle experience with interior long-term physical tools that project to high-major level and possibly the NFL Draft.”
