Tennessee football will need help on its defensive front in 2023. The transfer portal gives them an opportunity to fill that need, immediately.

Byron Young and LaTrell Bumphus are on their way out after anchoring the Vols’ front five for most of the year. A defensive lineman that Tennessee football was interested in in the past is in the portal again.

Omarr Norman-Lott has been a target for Rodney Garner since he entered the portal on December 5th. Tennessee was able to host him on a visit during the January 4-8 transfer portal visitation window.

Now, it is decision time. Norman-Lott has been relatively quiet on social media during this process. However, he informed GoVols247 he will be making a decision on Monday at 4 p.m. ET.

Norman-Lott was thoroughly impressed with East Tennessee.

“Like I said, it exceeded a lot of my expectations, just looking it up prior to coming here,” Norman-Lott told GoVols247. “It’s a really big city and town, honestly. Coach Garner was telling me, ‘This city can be whatever you want it to be,’ because, outside of all the students being gone, it’s still all ‘Go Vols’ fans.”

Originally from North Highlands, Calif., he had never been East.

Coming out of Arizona state, the 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle could be a plug-and-play guy for the Vols.

Norman-Lott appeared in nine games in 2022, finishing with 14 tackles, with three tackles for loss and two sacks. The lineman was a four-star prospect out of Grant Union high school. He ranks as the No. 355 prospect nationally in the class of 2020.

Seeking veteran defensive linemen, it is no wonder why Tennessee football is going after Norman-Lott. He could be a plug-and-play guy with a lot of experience at the power-five level.

He is expected to enroll in spring classes wherever he lands. Norman-Lott has two years of eligibility remaining.
