Caleb Calhoun and Dave Hooker provide more updates on Tennessee football in the transfer portal, break down Phillip Fulmer’s legacy as athletic director and the transition to Danny White and grade one of the units from the Vols’ 2022 season in Off The Hook’s Thursday, Jan. 19 podcast.
Tennessee football transfer portal news
The transfer portal closed on Wednesday. Players can still commit to other schools, but they can’t transfer out anymore. On Thursday, just as the show kicked off, the Vols picked up another transfer from the BYU Cougars, Gabe Jeudy-Lally. Caleb Jarreau has an article about him here.
Jeudy-Lally joins linebacker Keenan Pili as two defensive transfers from BYU to Tennessee football. They join wide receiver Dont’e Thornton, defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott, tight end McCallan Castles, kicker Charles Campbell and offensive linemen John Campbell Jr. and Andrej Karic as transfers Josh Heupel added.
Phillip Fulmer athletic director legacy
This week marks the two-year anniversary of the Vols firing football head coach Jeremy Pruitt and Phillip Fulmer stepping down as athletic director. Within two weeks, they hired Danny White as AD, who brought in Josh Heupel from the UCF Knights.
Fulmer’s legacy as AD is still being written to a degree with his hires, most notably Kellie Harper of the women’s basketball program keeping it up in the air. However, it’s mostly sealed in a negative way because the football hire didn’t work out, as he brought in Pruitt. As Hooker wrote Wednesday, White is a clear upgrade.
Offensive report card for 2022
Offensive grades for Tennessee football in the 2022 season are out. Spoiler alert: there were lots of A’s on that side of the ball. The only question is if a unit deserved an A+, an A- or just a standard A. That’s to be expected when you have the No. 1 scoring offense and No. 1 total offense in the nation. Heupel and now South Florida Bulls head coach Alex Golesh put on a show.
