“Excitement” was the word class of 2025 prospect Remington Moss used to describe his emotions after being extended a scholarship offer from Tennessee football.
It took a second for the emotions to hit the cornerback though.
“My reaction was pretty calm for a little,” he told Off The Hook Sports. “Once I let it set in though, I got pretty excited and am still excited. I try not to get too excited because I know I still have work to do.”
Tennessee football fans will recognize the player Moss used in his Twitter post. Eric Berry, a former defensive back for the Vols, was one of Tennessee’s highest-rated recruits and arguably one of the best to wear the Orange and White.
Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks and graduate assistant Evan Crabtree have been involved in recruiting the cornerback. Due to NCAA rules, Moss hasn’t been able to talk to Banks yet, but Banks has been “interactive” with Moss’ social media.
Tennessee’s successful 2022 season caught Moss’ attention.
“I did and thought they had a great season,” Moss said. “They competed with top schools in the nation and ranked No. 6. I think they have a chance at a natty these next couple of years.”
Moss has received over 10 offers since November of last year. Tennessee football joined the mix on Friday.
“It means that all my hard work is paying off,” Moss said on his recent attention. “It feels great when these coaches review my film and think it’s good enough to offer.”
Moss, out of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School in Fredericksburg, VA., has received notable offers from Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Maryland and Pittsburgh.
Moss is planning a trip to Knoxville over the offseason. He also plans on taking trips to other SEC schools, like South Carolina, Florida, and Kentucky.
Moss is listed as a cornerback on 247Sports, but he doesn’t limit himself to just that position.
“I see my role as a DB,” he said. “I know I can play corner and safety, so why not keep sharpening my skills for both even in college.”
He is currently growing into a leadership role for his high school in the secondary. Coming off a sophomore season where Moss finished with five interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, and 16 pass breakups, Moss is looking to grow his role even more in his junior year.
Moss tries to model his play after NFL players like Jalen Ramsey, Derwin James and Tyrann Mathieu. He chose those guys not just for their skills on the field, but for their leadership as well.
“All those corners play exceptionally well man-to-man coverage and the safeties I chose can play man as well and are the captains of their defense,” he said. “They can do it all.”
As Moss visits schools over the offseason, he’s hunting for a place where he can have an immediate impact, and a place he feels at home
“A school that allows me to come in and impact my first year and a school that feels like home,” Moss said on what he is looking for.
