Tennessee made the cut in three-star Tysean Griffin’s top 10 schools. The athlete released his top schools on Wednesday.

Griffin narrowed his choices down to Maryland, Michigan State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Purdue and Louisville as well as Tennessee.

Griffin is a Chicago native, attending Morgan Park High School. The 5-foot-1, 165-pound athlete has played at running back, wide receiver and defensive back. His role in college likely projects to the defensive side of the ball.

It isn’t clear which way Griffin is leaning just yet. The three-star prospect visited Purdue and Wisconsin in January for junior days. He’s also visited Illinois and Michigan State previously.

Wisconsin could be in the running for Griffin. Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell started recruiting Griffin when he was still the head coach at Cincinnati. It seems the two have formed a solid relationship.

Griffin ranks as the No. 386 player nationally, the No. 52 athlete nationally and the No. 10 prospect out of Illinois.

The Vols have work to do if they want to get Griffin to come south from Big-10 country, but it doesn’t seem impossible.

Tennessee has been gaining momentum on the recruiting trail, most recently picking up a commitment from three-star cornerback Marcus Goree.

Tennessee 2024 class currently sits at No. 15 with four commitments early in the cycle. Along with Goree, the Vols also have four-star athlete Johnathan Echols, four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley and three-star defensive lineman Carson Gentle along with the aforementioned Goree.

The Vols class looks good early. With a lot of in-state prospects still left to choose their schools, the 2024 class could turn out really solid.

As February comes to a close and the recruiting dead period ends, we will be able to get a better feel for where Tennessee stands with certain prospects.
