Elite WR Amari Jefferson includes Vols in his top 12

Tennessee’s momentum on the recruiting trail continued on Tuesday. Amari Jefferson included the Vols among his top schools. 

He also had Alabama, Clemson, Colorado, Oregon, Florida State, Penn State, Oklahoma, Georgia, Miami, South Carolina and Georgia Tech along with the Vols. 

Jefferson, a four-star football prospect, is currently committed to Tennessee for baseball, but has recently pursued his football offers more. The prospect maintains his pursuit of baseball though, and he has remained in contact with Tony Vitello and his staff. 

The wide receiver attends Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tenn., and ranks as the No. 5 prospect in the Tri-Star State. Jefferson was last on campus over the weekend, taking in both a baseball game and football practice. 

“I had somebody with me at all times,” Jefferson told 247Sports. “Me, (offensive graduate assistant Kody) Cook and (wide receivers) coach (Kelsey) Pope, we were kind of together all day, and it was kind of a big deal, so I felt very prioritized… I got to build a better relationship with Coach Pope and Coach Heupel and Coach Cook. But, also, my dad getting to be around me all day, and the coaching staff, so it definitely boosted Tennessee a lot and just kind of solidified things with how our relationship is, and (we) continue to build our relationship.”

Jefferson, who ranks as the No. 341 player nationally, finished last season with 73 catches for 1,258 yards and 11 touchdowns. 

Tennessee currently has three commitments in the class of 2024 – four-star athlete Johnathan Echols, four-star JJ Harrell, four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley, four-star Marcus Goree Jr. and three-star defensive lineman Carson Gentle. 

The Vols’ 2024 class ranks as No. 13 overall early in the cycle and No. 5 in the SEC.
