Class of 2026 prospect Kendre Harrison saw a familiar face when arrived for a visit to Tennessee football on Saturday. Daevin Hobbs, a four-star defensive lineman who signed in the Vols 2023 class knows Harrison from North Carolina.
Harrison, who attends Reidsville High School, defeated Hobbs’ Jay M. Robinson High School in basketball.
“He came down and talked to me for a while,” Harrison told Off The Hook. “He said if he would’ve played they would’ve beat us by 40. I said, ‘Nah, you’re tripping.’ We just had a little back and forth.”
After the two shared a laugh, Hobbs gave Harrison a recruiting pitch.
“He was trying to tell me to come and be a D-end,” Harrison said. “I was like ‘no, I’m a tight end.’ He was definitely telling me how much he liked it and that I should definitely try to make that move.”
Harrison mainly played tight end during his freshman high school season. The 6-foot-8 and 230-pound prospect would like to stay on the offensive side of the ball in college.
Tennessee football also shares the sentiment of Harrison staying at tight end. He stayed around Alec Abeln and the Vols tight ends for most of the time he was in Knoxville.
“Abe is a cool dude,” Harrison said. “After the scrimmage, everybody broke up into their positions. They got into a little huddle group and prayed. They talked about what they could do better. I walked over there to the tight-end group. The coach welcomed me and introduced me to everybody. I just liked how they talked out what they did, what they could do better, stuff like that. I get to see the brotherhood they have already.”
As part of watching the scrimmage, Harrison got to take in Neyland Stadium on Saturday.
“I walked into the field and I was looking up like ‘man, this is crazy,” Harrison said. “The stadium was huge.”
Tennessee extended Harrison an offer on January 27. He now holds over 10 offers, including Alabama, Colorado and Oregon among others.
“I’m just blessed,” Harrison said. “Blessed to be able to play the sport that I love and the opportunity to get all these offers. I’m just having fun with the recruiting stuff.”
Harrison currently has visits planned to UNC and Georgia slated for April. As for Tennessee, it made a great impression on the young prospect.
“I love it down there,” Harrison said. “I love the environment. Not only the school, but everything in Knoxville. They’re definitely top tier right now.”
