Tennessee Football is in the running for another top-edge rusher in the 2024 class. Four-star prospect Jordan Ross is set to announce his commitment on Aug. 21.
Ross, who ranks as the No. 37 prospect nationally by 247Sports, will choose between Tennessee Football, Florida, Texas and Alabama. He ranks as the No. 4 edge rusher and the No. 5 prospect from Alabama.
“To see them beat Alabama personally was one of the best game experiences I’ve had,” Ross told On3. “The staff make sure you are well educated of their program too.”
The 6-foot-4 and 230-pound Ross took an official visit to three of his top four schools. Alabama did not receive an official visit. Ross attended the Tennessee-Alabama game in the fall, as well as visiting the Vols in January for a junior day.
The edge rusher out of Vestavia Hills in Birmingham racked up 49 tackles in 2022, with 16 coming for a loss. He also got 2.5 sacks.
Cooper Petagna of 247Sports scouted Ross.
Estimated at 6-foot-4 and 220-pounds, possesses growth potential to add additional weight to his frame at the next level. Flashes excellent athleticism off the edge as a 3-4 standup outside linebacker.
“Displays an explosive first step off the line of scrimmage and flashes outstanding initial foot and body quickness at the point of attack. Fluid athlete,” Petagna writes. “Shows the ability to bend the edge and possesses good burst to close ability. Demonstrates good lateral change of direction ability and exhibits the ability to play in space both on the line of scrimmage and lined up as an off-ball linebacker.
“Shows the ability to consistently win with speed and athleticism off the edge. Will need to continue to develop his play strength at the point of attack in both the run and passing games to reach his full potential at the next level.
“Projects as a 3-4 OLB at the next level with ability to develop into an all-conference prospect on Saturdays. Ross’ combination of speed, athleticism and length make him one of the more intriguing upside pass rushers in this cycle as he only appears to be scratching the surface of his physical and technical development off the edge.”
