Tennessee Football travels to Gainesville on Saturday to take on Florida. It won’t be the first time the two teams have faced off.
The Vols and Gators face off often on the recruiting trail. Here’s a look at some prospects that Florida and Tennessee went down to the wire for.
Athlete Kamron Mikell
Four-star athlete Kamron Mikell is expected to be in Gainesville on Saturday, and it is safe to assume he will be watching Florida as closely as he is watching Tennessee. Both schools are still vying for the 2024 prospects talents.
The two crystal balls in the 247Sports database project Mikell to Georgia. He ranks as the No. 138 prospect in the country and the No. 14 athlete in his class. He is out of Statesboro (Ga.) High School.
Mikell will visit Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas A&M this fall.
Defensive lineman Amaris Williams
Amaris Williams may be committed to Florida, but that hasn’t stopped Tennessee from recruiting him. Williams, out of Clinton (N.C.) High School, committed to Florida in June. He ranks as the No. 146 prospect nationally.
Williams will likely be tuned in on Saturday, and Tennessee’s staff continues to try and get Williams to campus and flip him from Florida.
Tight end Johnathan Echols
Johnathan Echols has remained committed to the Vols since he made his pledge in July 2022. Out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, the Gators remained a heavy player in Echols recruitment.
He took an official visit to Florida but officially visited Tennessee a couple of weeks after and officially shutdown his recruitment.
Tight end Amir Jackson
Out of Portal (Ga.) High School, Amir Jackson committed to Florida the same weekend as Williams. Tennessee was involved with the four-star prospect when he chose Florida. He ranks as the No. 116 prospect nationally.
Jackson has plans to officially visit Miami and Auburn this fall. Could the Vols land a visit this fall? A big win against Florida may do just that.
EDGE Jordan Ross
Ross had Florida in his top schools, and he took an official visit to Florida before choosing Tennessee. Ross, a four-star prospect out of Vestavia Hills (Al.) High School, committed to the Vols in August.
The recruiting win over the Gators gave Tennessee’s staff one of their top recruits of the 2024 cycle.
