Tennessee got back on the winning base path, but a much tougher foe awaits.
The Vols secured a mid-week win against Xavier when they topped the Musketeers 10-2 on Tuesday night. Up next? A homestand with a visit from the Ole Miss Rebels, marking the second weekend of SEC competition. Four things to watch going into the weekend series:
Chasing history
With Tuesday’s two-run blast, Tennessee junior Blake Burke has 38 career home runs, just two shy of tying the Vols’ record of 40, set by Luc Lipcius in 2022. Burke is hitting .444 this season with eight home runs.
Good start to SEC play
Ole Miss is coming off a SEC opening weekend series win against South Carolina. The Rebels took two of three from the Gamecocks at home. Tennessee swept the last series played against Ole Miss in 2022. However, the Vols are 19-3 and 1-2 in the SEC after losing their opening SEC series to Alabama last weekend.
Happiest at the friendly confines
The Vols remain undefeated at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this season. They look to continue that winning streak at home this weekend in their first SEC home series. Tennessee is 16-0 at home this season.
Rebels to watch
Ole Miss third baseman Andrew Fischer hit three homers, driving in five runs Saturday night against South Carolina. Also on Saturday, starting LHP Liam Doyle struck out 10 batters, giving up only one walk in 5.1 innings of work.
