Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava isn’t lacking any respect from his teammates.
Here are what two Vols had to say about him following Tennessee’s press conference and what it means for the Vols’ leadership of the future.
OT John Campbell, Jr.
On Nico Iamaleava’s development:
“Nico is a baller, man. That’s my boy. Everything he is doing, he is doing it fast, doing it great. He’s making great decisions. I love Nico, and he’s a great leader.”
OT Jalen Heard (LSU Transfer)
On his impressions of Nico Iamaleava so far:
“I knew that Nico was a great player, and we came up in the same class. I saw that he was a very high recruit when we were coming out, and I knew that I wanted to be a part of that and his success.”
Having one’s offensive line behind (or in front) of him is a must for Iamaleava, who enters his first season as the Vols’ starting quarterback. Iamaleava proved the doubters wrong earlier this season when he led the Vols to a Citrus Bowl victory over Iowa 35-0. That came against one of the highest-rated defenses in the country.
Said Nico
“After that game, I probably took a week off and then was right back to work. Trying not to pay too much attention to things like that. I know what I came here to do, and it’s my job to go get that done”, stated Iamaleava.
It’s that kind of talk that will keep the mutual respect flowing from his teammates.
