Tennessee baseball recorded their second consecutive SEC sweep, beating Missouri in three games in Knoxville. After a dominating 10-1 win on Thursday, the hot Vol bats were cooled as games two and three were all about the pitching, with the Vols squeaking out low scoring, one run victories.
The bullpen – locked and loaded:
On Friday, pitchers Kirby Connell and Aaron Combs combined for two shutout innings to secure Tennessee’s win over Mizzou 3-2. The duo matched up again on Saturday, holding the Tigers to only three hits and one walk over the last three innings – with Tennessee coming out on top once again by a score of 3-2.
Christian Moore – Vol on top:
Coming off his second SEC player of the week honor, Moore led off Thursday night’s game with a home run. He has surpassed teammate Blake Burke for Tennessee career home runs with 46. Moore’s team leading 20 home runs this season has him on pace to smash the school record of 24, set by Sonny Cortez in 1998.
More record chasing:
The Diamond Vols hit six home runs on Thursday night, increasing their team total to 121. The school record is 158 set in 2022. Tennessee also has five games this year where the team has hit six homers in the game.
The streak is over:
Sadly, Blake Burke’s 31-game hitting streak came to an end Thursday as he failed to record a hit.
Beam is shining:
Starting pitcher Drew Beam tossed another quality start on Friday, holding Mizzou to just two runs on six hits over 7.1 innings, improving his season record to 6-1. Beam has thrown at least five or more innings in nine of his 11 starts this year.
Next up, the Vols welcome fellow Tennessee rival Lipscomb to the friendly confines on Tuesday. First pitch is at 6pm.
