SEC Media Days Day 4 questions: Are Texas A&M, Auburn contenders?

We’ve reached the final day of SEC Media Days, and the league closes it with the least interesting teams. All but one are seen in the 6-6 to 8-4 category. They want the media picks to dominate Thursday. Still, plenty of storylines can come from each of the teams. The Kentucky Wildcats, Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas A&M Aggies and Auburn Tigers take the podium. Here are questions for each of them.

Is Arkansas moving to fire Sam Pittman?

Could Bobby Petrino be the offensive coordinator forced on head coaches about to get fired, or is this a move by the Hogs to actually work Petrino back in as head coach? Pittman himself will be diplomatic about this, but he can’t be happy given the fact that he’s on the hot seat. Obviously, this story will follow him around everywhere.

Auburn consistency under Hugh Freeze

However you feel about him, Hugh Freeze is one of the best offensive coaches in the SEC, and it showed at times last year. Then there were other times when he lost to the New Mexico State Aggies. Does Freeze enter SEC Media Days with a team he can consistently keep elite now? If so, Auburn could contend in the league this year.

Kentucky QB situation

Mark Stoops is clearly gunning for a more offensive-friendly system. Last year was a bust with Devin Leary and Liam Coen. Now, though, he has Georgia Bulldogs transfer quarterback Brock Vandagriff, once a five-star, and Bush Hamdan coming in to install the west coast offense. It should be the perfect fit, but how does this complement what Stoops likes to run/

How quickly could Mike Elko restore Texas A&M?

Why is everybody at SEC Media Days ignoring how elite the Aggies could be? Jimbo Fisher had his issues, but his recruiting assured they’d be loaded with talent, and now the program has an Ivy League graduate as head coach who knows football and won with the Duke Blue Devils. This could be a dangerous combination going forward.
