Could the next British Invasion be coming to Knoxville? It’s certainly possible. Following a massive recruiting weekend which saw many top prospects visit Tennessee as well as two 4-star players committing to the Vols, one of their next big additions could be from across the pond – well, sort of.
4-star class of 2025 cornerback Onis Konanbanny was one of the young phenoms that paid a visit to Rocky Top this past weekend, which has many analysts predicting he will choose UT as his official “home sweet home” when he announces his decision in August. Konanbanny took to Twitter on Sunday letting his followers know he has narrowed down his choices to two schools, Tennessee and Florida State. Here are a five things to know about this defensive star.
Pond Jumping
Konanbanny is from London, by way of France, having relocated to the United States in 2022 to further his football career. He currently attends Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, SC where he has seen action at not only the defensive back position, but at wide receiver as well.
Track to Field
A multi-sport athlete, the 6’1”, 180lb. Konanbanny also plays a different type of football – soccer, that is. He excels on the track as well, having placed 11th in the long jump at the NCISAA Track & Field championship. He also recorded a 12.64 in the 100-meter dash his freshman year.
The Numbers
Composite rankings from 247sports.com have listed Konanbanny as 298th overall, the 29th cornerback in the class as well as the 4th best player from the state of South Carolina.
Can’t Get Enough
Tennessee was the first school to offer Konanbanny a scholarship in March of 2023 and he has paid multiple visits to UT ever since. He officially visited the campus back on June 21st, but made at least three unofficial appearances since May.
Really, Really Real
During his official visit in June, Konanbanny was especially taken by Tennessee’s recruiting style. “The energy here is really real,” he told 247sports.com after his visit. “This is, like, a real family type of deal. Once you’re in, you’re in, and once they like you, like, they’re recruiting you hard. And they don’t just let anybody in, don’t just recruit anybody. It’s about what type of person you are. So, I just learned more about people and then built more stronger relationships, and now we’ll just keep building.”
