CALEB’S CASINO: Cal our SUPERDOG in college football week 6 best bets

Slowly but surely, we continue to improve our betting for college football this year. Sure, we went just 10-10 on our overall bets, but on our best bets, ones we actually choose to make, we went 3-2 for a third straight week, so this is the first time all year we aren’t under .500 on either of them. Again, it’s a slow climb, but we’re 60-83 overall and now 11-19 on our best bets.

Now it’s time to take off and turn a profit. There are 0 top 25 games this week, and five SEC teams have a bye will 10 of the other 11 play each other, requiring just six games for us to pick. However, this week has tons of games involving ranked teams visiting unranked teams with winning records, so we added four picks to our best bets, giving us 10 games to pick overall. Let’s dive in and truly make a comeback.

SEC and top 25 bets

Texas A&M -2.5 vs. Missouri; Over 48.5

They keep winning ugly, but after losing their opener, the Aggies are 4-1 and in the top 25 under first-year head coach Mike Elko. Despite coming off a bye week, the Missouri Tigers look like the most fraudulent team in college football, so A&M should cover this one in front of their wild College Station crowd. With the offense coming more together and Mizzou’s defense an issue, take the over.

Auburn +22 at Georgia; Under 51.5

If not for turnovers all over the place, the Tigers would be 5-0 right now. As a result, they’re way better than their 2-3 record indicates, and Hugh Freeze’s team can make games ugly. Even on the road, they can cash in on the Georgia Bulldogs being down after a heartbreaking loss in the college football game of the year. That lethargy will result in the game hitting the under as well.

Ole Miss -9 at South Carolina; Over 53.5

Lane Kiffin and the Rebels lost to the Kentucky because they played down to Mark Stoops’ style and got caught off-guard with how he changed up his schemes. Shane Beamer isn’t smart enough to do that, even off a bye, so Ole Miss will light it up at the Gamecocks. Jaxson Dart’s Heisman campaign will continue, so this game will hit the over.

Alabama -22.5 at Vanderbilt; Over 54.5

Riding high after a huge win should result in a bit of a hangover for the Crimson Tide, especially on the road against a team coming off a bye, but it won’t matter. Kalen DeBoer’s team will obliterate the Commodores, largely because of how bad Vandy’s defense is. That alone is enough for us to take them to cover and the game to hit the over.

Florida +2.5 vs. UCF; Over 61.5

Billy Napier’s Gators are bad, but they are coming off a bye, and the last time we saw them, they put up tons of points in a blowout win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Meanwhile, the Knights just got blown out 48-21 the last time we saw them, against the Colorado Buffaloes. As a result, at home, you should take UF to cover this spread, and given how bad both defenses are, go all in on the over.

Tennessee -13.5 at Arkansas; Over 56.5

Josh Heupel is 3-0 off a bye ever since taking over the Vols, but the Razorbacks are another one of those deceptive college football teams who are 3-2 and should be 5-0. Still, that bye week and the Hogs demoralized after another heartbreaking loss should result in UT covering. Sam Pittman’s team will force the Vols to beat them offensively, though, so the game will hit the over.

Best Week 6 college football bets

Oregon -23.5 vs. Michigan State

After a bad start to the year, the Ducks, who remain undefeated, look like one of the top teams in college football and the best in the Big Ten. They are hosting a Michigan State Spartans team that just lost 38-7 to the Ohio State Buckeyes and led by Jonathan Smith, who lost to Oregon last year 31-7 when he was with the Oregon State Beavers. As a result, covering this huge spread is a great bet.

UCLA +28 at Penn State

James Franklin’s Nittany Lions struggle at times offensively and looked ugly against the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Bruins, meanwhile, are 1-3 but covered the last two spreads against them while facing Oregon and the LSU Tigers. Once again, this spread against them is far too big, so while they’ll lose, take them to cover, and they may do so easily.

Alabama at Vanderbilt, the Over 54.5

Again, the Crimson Tide are playing air defensively, and they have the Heisman frontrunner in Jalen Milroe. They could cross 54.5 points by themselves, but if they don’t Vandy has proven it has a good enough offense to help push this game to the over. As a result, that’s easily the best over bet to make in college football this week.

Michigan at Washington, the Under 41.5

Three big plays on special teams is the only reason last week’s Michigan Wolverines game wasn’t under 35 points. Now, they visit a Washington Huskies team that has had one game all year go over 41 points, to 43 to be exact. Both programs play ball control and rely on defense, so this is the best under to take for the weekend.

SUPERDOG: Cal MONEYLINE vs. Miami

Last week, the Hurricanes got lucky in surviving the Virginia Tech Hokies. They now have to travel to the West Coast to visit the Cal Golden Bears team at 10:30 p.m. their time. Cal, led by Justin Wilcox, upset the Auburn Tigers and is coming off a bye. Sure, they lost to the Florida State Seminoles, but at home, the trends favor them. So let’s go all in. As 10.5-point under dogs, we’re taking Cal in an upset.
