A trend for Tennessee Football ever since their win over the Alabama Crimson Tide a few weeks ago has been landing 2026 prospects and many of whom are on the rise. The Vols did that again on Friday afternoon, and for the second time, they did it with a player from the state of Alabama.
Braylon Outlaw, who hails from Pike Road High School in Montgomery County, Ala., announced his commitment to Rocky Top. Not yet rated on 247Sports Composite, Outlaw is listed as a three-star across the board on all the other services.
Standing at 6’0″ and weighing in the range of 200 to 215 pounds, Outlaw is the fifth commitment to Tennessee Football since their win over Bama and the fourth in their 2026 recruiting class. He announced his commitment to Rocky Top on his social media accounts.
Despite his minimal rating, Outlaw is looking like a steal for the Vols given who was targeting him. UT had to fight off the Ole Miss Rebels primarily, according to ON3, and Ryan Callahan of 247Sports reports he was also fielding offers from the Oregon Ducks, South Carolina Gamecocks, Michigan Wolverines and Missouri Tigers.
First-year UT linebackers coach William Inge has been primarily recruiting Outlaw. Callahan reported that Outlaw said the Vols are looking at him specifically as a linebacker while other schools are looking at him as an athlete or versatile defender. Click here for a look at his highlight reel.
As you can see, Outlaw is great at playing in position, which helps him be effective dropping back in coverage and coming up to stop the run. The question is whether or not he will have the speed to translate that to the SEC, as lateral quickness is not proven given his level of competition.
With Outlaw, Tennessee Football now has six players committed in its 2026 recruiting class, and the Vols aren’t likely done with their 2025 class either. Josh Heupel continues to identify talent early, as is his philosophy, but there’s still a question as to how much it pays off at the next level.
