It’s about to be the Wild Wild West in East Tennessee. Josh Heupel and his coaching staff just landed another star recruit from the Class of 2026, linebacker Braylon Outlaw. After attending his first game at Neyland Stadium on October 19th, Outlaw waited just a few short weeks to announce his commitment to Tennessee on Friday.
He told 247sports.com after a visit to Knoxville in June, “I just like the vibe there,” Outlaw said. “I definitely feel like I connected with Coach (William) Inge, the linebacker coach, and it just seemed like a cool place to be, some place that I would probably feel welcome or would definitely want to play at.”
So who is this defensive outlaw? Here are five things to know:
Bama is his home
Outlaw attends Pike Road High School in Pike Road, Ala. He finished the 2024 regular season with 86 tackles (48 solo), two tackles for loss, two passes defended and an interception; he also ran for two touchdowns. The multi-sport athlete also plays basketball.
Rankings on the rise
The 6-foot, 212-pound Outlaw has a three-star rating per 247sports.com. His composite ranking has him listed 519th overall, the 41st linebacker and the top 18th player from the state of Alabama.
Strong coaching steered him to Tennessee
The Vols’ coaching staff was a big proponent in Outlaw’s decision. “(Inge) was very important for me,” Outlaw told Volquest. “From the start and from me visiting up there, he was the main one I talked to and was very influential in my decision. I like how he comes down to a level a younger guy can understand. He is very relatable and just a good coach. It is easy to take his coaching and what he says.
