While Tennessee football’s “865 Live” weekend prioritized some of the biggest names in the 2024 class, Josh Heupel and his staff also hosted a couple of class of 2025 prospects.
One of those 2025 prospects was five-star offensive lineman Josh Petty. Petty, out of Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia, appreciated being a priority for Josh Heupel and his staff early on.
“It definitely felt special knowing I was an elite guy that is a priority for them,” Petty told OTH, following his visit.
Since being extended a scholarship offer from Tennessee in March, Petty has called the Vols one of his “dream schools.” He got a chance to see campus firsthand this weekend during the “865 Live” event. He was also on campus in April ahead of the Vols’ spring game.
“Tennessee’s facilities are impressive,” he said. “Seeing what they have going on is really amazing.”
Petty ranks as the No. 12 prospect nationally in the 2025 class by 247Sports Composite rankings. He also sits as the No. 2 offensive tackle in his class and the No. 4 prospect from Georgia.
Tennessee is in the running for Petty, along with over 20 other programs. The Vols’ coaching staff prioritized forming relationships with Petty during his time in Knoxville.
“I think I met just about every coach but spent the most time with (offensive coordinator Joey Halzle) and (offensive line coach Glen) Elarbee, but all their coaches are really caring,” Petty said.
“I had a chance to bond with coaches while doing a scavenger hunt, talent show, mini golf and a block party.”
The 6-foot-5, 262-pound lineman spent a lot of time getting to know Tennessee offensive line coach Glen Elarbee during his vist. Surrounded by current Tennessee offensive line commitments Gage Ginther and Jesse Perry as well, Petty got a chance to make relationships that could pay off down the line in his recruitment.
“We talked about the future of Tennessee and what he sees in me as well as talking ball and evaluating the film,” Petty said.
Elarbee made it clear to Petty that they see him as an “athletic lineman who has lots of potential.”
Still early in his recruitment, it seems the Vols have made a great impression on Petty, one that may last through the end of his recruitment.
