The unofficial start to the 2023 college football season is here with SEC Media Days, and while Tennessee Football doesn’t take the podium until Thursday, Caleb Calhoun, Dave Hooker and Caleb Jarreau dive into the event immediately for Off The Hook Sports’ Monday, July 17 podcast. Shooting from Nashville, they rank SEC coaches, dive into UT roster sizes and NCAA sanctions and preview the event. They also draw a comparison between the SEC and Big Ten.

SEC Media Days begins

Things kick off Monday in Nashville with Greg Sankey for SEC Media Days before the Missouri Tigers, LSU Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies took the stage. How big of a threat is each of those schools in the league this year? Could Eli Drinkwitz reach another level? Will Texas A&M fire Jimbo Fisher? Is LSU good enough to win the national championship in Brian Kelly’s second year?

Roster updates for Tennessee Football

Updated jersey numbers and sizes for Tennessee Football newcomers were revealed Monday. That includes transfers and freshmen. Whose size stands out the most? Which position was there the biggest need to improve size. How big of a deal was it that Nico Iamaleava got above 200 pounds? What about Arion Carter now pushing 230 pounds? Where does the offensive line stand on this now?

Ranking SEC coaches

Ahead of SEC Media Days, how do all 14 SEC coaches stack up against each other? Kirby Smart of the Georgia Bulldogs and Nick Saban of the Alabama Crimson Tide are clearly in a tier of their own, but who’s in the tier behind them? Kelly of LSU should be. Are Josh Heupel of the Vols and Mark Stoops of the Kentucky Wildcats in the same tier as he is?

Tennessee Football to vacate NCAA wins

In addition to the sanctions reported Friday from the infractions committed under Jeremy Pruitt, it was revealed over the weekend that Tennessee Football will have to vacate all of its wins from 2019 and 2020. Is this a fair punishment? Does it really matter given the fact that the Vols went 11-12 during those two years anyway? What does this say about Pruitt?

Will Big Ten or SEC have two CFP teams?

This is the last year of the four-team College Football Playoff, meaning its the last year probably that the SEC or Big Ten has just one team in. Which of those conferences is most likely to have two teams reach it this year? Will either have that? Is the B1G better-positioned because it’s so top heavy, or will the depth of the SEC help that league put multiple teams in?
