Tennessee fell three spots in the Associated Press Poll despite beating Florida 23-17 in overtime on Saturday.

The Vols are now ranked No. 11 in the country after being ranked No. 8 last week. Tennessee’s upcoming opponent, Alabama, ranks No. 7 in the Associated Press Poll despite a loss to Vanderbilt two weeks ago and a rather unimpressive 27-25 win over South Carolina on Saturday.

Texas is the No. 1 team in the nation and the top-ranked team in the SEC, followed by Georgia at No. 5, which beat Mississippi State 41-31 on Saturday.

LSU is now ranked No. 8 in the country. The Tigers jumped the Vols in the AP Poll after beating Ole Miss 29-26 on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La. Ole Miss fell to No. 18 in the latest Associated Press Poll.

Texas A&M is ranked No. 14 in the country. Missouri is now No. 19 meaning the SEC has eight of the top 25 teams in the country, according to the AP Poll. Of course, the AP Poll has certainly lost some prestige in the college football world with a 12-team College Football Playoff in place. The College Football Playoff Committee will release its first rankings on Nov. 5.

Once dinged for winning with style points via one-sided victories, Tennessee is now seemingly being penalized for winning with an elite defense. The Vols fell one spot in the Coaches’ Poll despite beating the Florida Gators 23-17 in overtime on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.

The Vols are now ranked No. 10 in the Coaches’ Poll, which carries practically no weight whatsoever any longer, after being ranked No. 9 last week. Despite winning, the Vols fell behind LSU and Clemson, but jumped ahead of Ole Miss. LSU beat Ole Miss, which was formerly No. 7, 29-27 on Saturday in Baton Rogue. LSU jumped the Vols and are currently No. 8 in the updated Coaches’ Poll.

The Vols were also leapfrogged by Clemson, who beat Wake Forest 49-14 on Saturday. LSU and Clemson are both 5-1 just like Tennessee. Ole Miss, which is now 5-2, dropped to No. 15 in the Coaches’ Poll.

  1. This is why we fell. 2 or 3 beat writers from obscure backgrounds. I asked a friend from the Athletic to find out who it was.

The Athletic’s Matt Brown and New Jersey Advance Media’s Brian Fonseca both have the Vols at No. 16 on their AP Top 25 ballots.
CBS Austin’s Bob Ballou has Tennessee at No. 15 on his ballot.
