Tennessee extended a scholarship offer to defensive end Danny Okoye on Friday. The Vols aren’t the only ones to show strong interest in the Oklahoma prospect. It was the 10th offer for the 6-foot-5, 230-pound edge rusher.
Okoye, who will be a part of the 2024 class, also holds offers from Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri, but said Tennessee is definitely a school he’s considering as his recruitment kicks off.
“I think they’re a really good team,” Okoye said. “Definitely one that I would keep up high on my list.”
Okoye hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma, playing for the Tulsa Northeastern Oklahoma Association of Homeschools (NOAH), which is a team for players in the area who are homeschooled. The unranked defensive end has been getting a lot of attention recently, gaining three SEC offers in September.
Tennessee was a school Okoye was watching as he began to receive offers.
“I’ve always been aware of Tennessee and all they’re doing and working on over there,” Okoye said. “Not gonna say that I’ve always kept up to tabs on them, but I’ve definitely kept my eye on them, especially once my recruitment started kicking off.”
Special teams graduate assistant Evan Crabtree has been recruiting Okoye. After talking for a while, Okoye was extended an offer from Crabtree on Friday.
“Coach Crabtree was the one who recruited me and extended the offer,” Okoye said. “Once I was able to communicate with coaches and stuff, we set up a time to call and, after a little talk, he told me about the offer.”
