Nico Iamaleava is constantly on the prowl for prospects on the recruiting trail. The five-star quarterback from Warren High School in Downey, Calif., was in Knoxville for the Florida game and was, once again, extolling the virtues of being a Vol.
Tennessee hosted several high-ranking prospects this past weekend, including Boo Carter, a four-star prospect in the 2024 class.
Carter said he enjoyed the rowdy environment surrounding the Florida game with several other recruits, including Iamaleava, who is the top prospect in Tennessee’s 2023 class. Carter said he also visited with four-star cornerback prospect Kaleb Beasley from Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, as well as his teammate, Nate Spillman. Spillman is a three-star receiver who committed to UT in March.
“I was talking to a couple of players, like Kaleb, Nico, Nate and some more players,” Carter told GoVols247. “I was telling them, ‘Just imagine us going here’… Me and Nico (Iamaleava) kicked it after the game and everything. We’re tight now. As of late, we’re tight. He was just telling me I need to join him — like, this journey would be amazing.”

Iamaleava and Carter became close through their 7-on-7 team. The two have continued to bond throughout their recruitments. Although he may end up at defensive back in college, the 5-foot-10 and 184-pound athlete could continue catching passes from Iamaleava if he were to commit to Tennessee.
Tennessee was the first school to extend a scholarship offer to Carter, back in May of 2021. He has visited Knoxville several times since then.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel has made it a priority to keep Carter in-state. Heupel visited Carter’s high school, Chattanooga Christian School on Sept. 2.
Carter scored six times for CCS on Friday, four rushing and two receiving.
Carter will be back in Knoxville for Tennessee’s matchup with Alabama on Oct. 15. Carter holds scholarship offers from LSU, Ole Miss, and Nebraska, among others.
Can Heupel, along with Iamaleava, sway Carter to commit to Tennessee? The Volunteers could use the help in their secondary based on recent events, including the Florida game in which the Vols gave up 453 yards passing.
