The atmosphere in Neyland Stadium this past weekend impressed many recruits, including the No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2024.

Ryan Wingo was in Knoxville for Tennessee’s historic win against Florida. The five-star prospect holds Tennessee in high regard and visited the campus over the summer. Wingo was also in attendance for Tennessee’s overtime win at Pitt.

On top of enjoying the energy around Knoxville in his first gameday experience, the wide receiver has taken notice of how Tennessee’s Cedric Tillman, among others, have found success in head coach Josh Heupel’s up-tempo offense.

“I really have high interest in them because of what they did with (Cedric Tillman),” Wingo told Rivals247. “I think he had, like, three catches or something like that before they got there, and then he came out with, like, 1,000 yards or something like that. It really put them up there, just because I’m like, ‘Sheesh. If they can do this to a receiver like that, what situations can they put me in?’ and stuff like that… And I watched the offense, watched the receivers, watched number 11 — (Jalin) Hyatt — and I watched (No.) 15, Bru (McCoy).”

In 2020, Tillman had three receptions for 67 yards. Following the arrival of Heupel, Tillman finished 2021 with 64 receptions for 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns.

It’s no surprise that Wingo is impressed by Tennessee’s offense and receiver play. The Volunteers average 365.75 passing yards per game so far in 2022. Considering that four receivers have surpassed the 150-yard mark on the season, it’s safe to say that Tennessee spreads the ball around very well.

Wingo does it all for St. Louis University High School in St. Louis, MO. The 6-foot-2 and 198-pound athlete is a very skilled kick returner, something that can translate to the collegiate level.

Wingo also runs track, with 10.55 second best 100-meter dash.

Wingo has visits planned to Arkansas, Penn State, Michigan, and Ole Miss. The five-star prospect hopes to return to Knoxville sometime in the off-season.
