Tennessee’s loss to South Carolina ends its chances of making the College Football Playoff.
Already sitting on the outside looking in, the only thing the Volunteers couldn’t do was lose, and that is what they did on Saturday.
Regardless of Tennessee’s result, here’s a look at how the rest of the playoff slate did on Saturday.
No. 1 Georgia
In a lackluster performance, Georgia defeated Kentucky 16-6 on Saturday.
Georgia’s quarterback Stetson Bennett finished with 116 yards on 13-19 passing and one interception. The Bulldogs’ lone touchdown came on the ground via a nine-yard run from Kenny McIntosh.
Georgia’s normally stout defense gave up 206 yards on 20-31 and one touchdown to Will Levis.
Obviously not the best performance from Georgia, but they pull out the win.
No. 2 Ohio State
Ohio State pulled out a close game against Maryland 43-30.
The Buckeyes’ quarterback CJ Stroud finished with 241 yards and a touchdown on 18-30 passing. Dallan Hayden finished with 146 yards on 27 carries for Ohio State.
The Buckeyes’ defense gave up 293 yards and two touchdowns through the air to Taulia Tagovailoa.
Ohio State didn’t play its best, but they pulled out the win in the end.
No. 3 Michigan
Michigan escaped a scare from Illinois 19-17 although Bret Bielema blamed the officials for the loss following the game.
Whether it be referees or Blake Corum’s 108 rushing yards, the Wolverines pulled out the win. Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy finished with 208 yards on 18-34 passing.
No. 4 TCU
For about 20 minutes on Saturday, it seemed like TCU was going to fall to Baylor. That wasn’t the case as TCU won the game on a fire-drill-like game-winning field goal. The final was 29-28.
TCU quarterback Max Duggan finished with 327 yards with a touchdown and interception on 24-35 passing. He also led the rushing attack with eight rushes for 50 yards and a touchdown.
The win was ugly for the Horned Frogs, but they won regardless.
No. 6 LSU
LSU hosted UAB for senior night, winning 41-10.
There wasn’t much issue for LSU in a gimme-game. Jayden Daniels finished with 297 yards and a touchdown on 22-29 passing. He also led the rushing attack 111 yards on 12 carries.
No. 7 Southern California
USC barely defeated UCLA 48-45.
Trojan quarterback Caleb Williams finished with 470 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception on 32-43 passing. Williams played like a Heisman contender on Saturday.
Austin Jones picked up 120 yards on 21 carries for USC.
With the Tennessee loss to South Carolina, don’t be surprised if the Trojans jump into the top six.
