Hailing from just outside of Montgomery in Pike Road, Ala, Vysen Lang committed to Tennessee football in early November. Here are five things to know about the offensive lineman.
Where Lang ranks
Lang ranks as a three-star across the board. He measures out at 6-foot-4.5 and 335-pounds.
247Sports ranks Lang as the No. 42 interior offensive lineman in the class of 2023 and the No. 22 prospect from Alabama.
ON3 has Lang as the No. 129 interior offensive lineman and the No. 55 prospect from Alabama.
Rivals holds Lang as the No. 51 interior offensive lineman and the No. 22 prospect from Alabama.
Tennessee football over who
Lang verbally committed to Tennessee football on Nov. 8. He chose the Volunteers over LSU, Texas, and Auburn, among others.
Lang visited Tennessee several times before announcing his decision. He took his official visit when Tennessee knocked off Florida, and he was also in Knoxville and charged the field after Tennessee football upset Alabama.
Following the Alabama game, it became clear Lang was trending towards choosing the Vols.
State champion
Lang attends Pike Road High School in Montgomery County.
The offensive tackle was a large reason for the Patriots 5A State Championship a season ago, and he led Pike Road to another state championship this season.
Lang was seen as a leader in Pike Road’s locker room, possessing a high work ethic and drive. Those qualities will go a long way in Tennessee’s locker room.
What does coach say?
Lang’s head coach, Ed Rigby, spoke highly of the prospect prior to his commitment. Rigby believes that Lang can have an immediate impact on Tennessee’s dominant offense.
“He’s a perfect fit for that program,” Rigby told AL.com. “He can mash on the zone or pull if needed. Obviously, he’s a great pass-blocker. He can set and hold the edge. That is why we have him on the backside at left tackle. It’s the most important position. It’s a perfect, perfect fit. He has the God-given size and smarts to plug right in there and play.”
Playing for his family
Lang hopes that one day he is able to give back to his family. He credits his family with being his motivation and hopes to one day retire them.
“I want to retire my mom as soon as possible,” Lang told The Advertiser. “With how much my parents do for me, I don’t like hearing them talk about money and everything. … I’m doing all the hard work now, just so I can be like, ‘I’m just gonna take care of you.’ Go sit down, be lazy, sit back, feet up, drink a Coke and let me do all the work.”
