Tennessee football is set to bring in a big-name prospect this weekend.

The Vols are set to host Ryan Wingo. It will be his third time in Knoxville.

Wingo has been a target for the Vols in the class of 2024. Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports gave a crystal ball for Wingo, projecting him to Tennessee. The Vols extended him a scholarship offer in March.

Wingo told ON3 that Tennessee is one of his top schools.

“Whenever I go up there, I always feel like I’m family,” Wingo told ON3. “The players up there, they welcome me in. So if I see a player, they always dap me up, that type of thing. The coaches just show a lot of love to me when I go up there (or) on the phone. So I think that’s what making me go back a lot.”

He ranks as a five-star prospect, and the No. 14 prospect nationally. He also ranks as the No. 3 wide receiver in the class of 2024.

Wingo’s high ranking is no surprise. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound prospect had a great season for St. Louis University High School in Saint Louis, Missouri. He finished 2023 with 41 catches for 785 yards and 13 total touchdowns.

He also played special teams for St. Louis University High School, returning two punts for touchdowns. On the defensive side, Wingo had 44 tackles, two sacks, and two picks.

It’s safe to say that Wingo is a playmaker at the high school level, earning himself over 30 offers. The five-star prospect took visits to Clemson, LSU, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas A&M, and Michigan, among others.

Allen Trieu compares Wingo to Donovan Peoples-Jones in their playstyles.

“Track background that includes a 10.55 in the 100-meter dash as a sophomore and a 21.31 200,” Trieu writes. “Comes from a running back family but has the speed and pass-catching ability to play receiver or see a hybrid role in college. And has a leaner, high-cut build where he can play receiver but could also still motion into the backfield and be handed the ball some. Not only has track speed but has some wiggle, although he runs by defenders more than he makes them miss in a phone booth. That twitch can be seen as a route-runner also. Catches the ball well away from his frame and tracks it well over the shoulder. Is a good route runner currently but can still continue to add more craft and diversify his route tree as he gets older. Dangerous return man who can continue being a kick returner in college. Not the kind of player that has to be put in a box — he is an offensive threat and scoreboard changer at the next level no matter how he touches the ball. Likely a future high draft choice with his combination of size, verified speed and versatility.”
