Tennessee football picked up a walk-on tight end on Tuesday, adding depth to the room. Cody Duncan, former Virginia Tech walk-on, is set to enroll at UT and join his younger brother in Knoxville.

Duncan played in a special teams role for the Hokies during his freshman year before being forced to sit out this past season due to injury. He joins the Vols with three years of eligibility remaining.

Despite opportunities from multiple schools, Duncan passed them up to play with his brother, Trevor Duncan, who is a commitment in the Vols’ 2023 recruiting class. Trevor Duncan will play lineman for Tennessee football.

“I had some options to play FCS ball — Austin Peay, Murray (State), Western Carolina,” Cody Duncan told GoVols247. “But Tennessee gave me the option to come in spring and, with my brother committing and signing, I don’t think I could turn that opportunity down. We’ve always pushed each other, so it wasn’t too hard to decide.”

Coming out of Catholic High School in Knoxville, Cody Duncan was a two-star prospect and the No. 109 prospect from Tennessee in the class of 2020. He measures out at 6-foot-1 and 231-pounds.

Also a Catholic High School grad, Trevor Duncan was a three-star prospect in the class of 2022. The 6-5.5, 277-pound two-way lineman ranks as the No. 22 prospect from Tennessee and the No. 51 athlete nationally.

Cody Duncan played both linebacker and tight end in high school but will likely be used to provide depth in the tight end room. With the departure of Princeton Fant, Tennessee football is left with Jacob Warren, transfer McCallan Castles and incoming freshman Ethan Davis.

Rocky Top also has walk-on tight ends with Hunter Salmon, former UCF transfer Charlie Browder and freshman Titus Rohrer. Tennessee football wrapped up its 2023 class in the Early Signing Period, coming in at No. 8 nationally. As for transfers, the Vols currently sit at No. 35 with eight incoming transfers.
