When Judd Anderson’s 7-on-7 team made the trip to Knoxville, the class of 2024 quarterback made sure to stop by Tennessee.
The three-star prospect was impressed with Tennessee and enjoyed getting to meet the coaching staff.
“I just enjoyed sitting there,” Anderson told Off The Hook Sports. “Having conversations with them and talking about recruiting and everything going on. I was pretty excited about that.”
The 6-foot-6, 210-pound quarterback was recently extended a scholarship offer from Miami. Although yet to receive a scholarship offer from Tennessee, there is mutual interest.
“I would just be redshirting my first year and really trying to build up the amount of reps I’m going to get,” Anderson said of Tennessee’s plan. “Just really starting to put in the most work we can possible from the jump.”
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel’s offense is a quarterback’s dream. It’s also an offense that Anderson runs and is familiar with at his high school, Jones (Ga.) County High School.
“It’s an awesome scheme,” he said. “We’re running a bunch of similar stuff in my high school. It really ties into what they’re doing and the quarterbacks and the receivers they have. Just those guys, it really fits their whole personality and everything they’re doing honestly.”
Anderson has visits planned to Georgia Tech on March 13, North Carolina on March 25 and Miami on April 6. He also hopes to get up to Knoxville again. He doesn’t have a timeline for his recruitment yet.
“I’ve really wanted to take my time with the process and really see these schools and just start building relationships as much as I can,” Anderson said. “If there’s just a place that I love and feels absolutely like home, I want to go there.”
Academics are very important for Anderson, who hopes to go into sports marketing. After academics, he looks into how the school can help him develop.
“My first two years of college are crucial for me,” he said. “I would just really want a place that’s going to develop me into the player I want to be, the best I can possibly be for that school and those people.”
Tennessee showed Anderson something he hadn’t seen yet. The Vols focus on freshman development and have a plan in place for every incoming player.
His relationship with the staff, and seeing Tennessee’s plans for freshman development, make him hold the Vols in high regard.
“I really enjoyed the things they were saying about (the freshman development),” Anderson said. “It wasn’t much, but just even hearing that they have that, I haven’t heard that much. I was just shocked by it, so I thought that was a really awesome opportunity for the guys they get.”
