Jerrick Gibson locked in his official visit to Tennessee for June 16, and the five-star running back has quickly become a priority of Josh Heupel and his staff.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pounder caught up with Luke Winstel over the weekend to talk about what he is looking forward to most when he visits Tennessee.
“I’m just looking forward to seeing what they got to offer,” Said Gibson, the No. 1 running back in the 2024 class. “Getting up there and seeing more things, because when I went up there I ain’t really see the facility, or the dorms or stuff like that. I just want to get up there and see what they have to offer.”
The tailback out of IMG Academy in Bradenton (Fla.) was in Knoxville for the Vols’ upset win over Alabama in October. He also visited Tennessee in September when Tennessee beat Florida, and last summer.
His time in Knoxville gave Tennessee a chance to roll out the red carpet for him on an official visit. A large part of which came from Tennessee running backs coach Jerry Mack, who has been heavily involved in Gibson’s recruitment.
While most know Heupel and Tennessee’s offense for passing the ball, Gibson took notice to how the Vols were able to run it this past season.
“They run the ball pretty well,” he said. “People just know them for their passing because of the crazy passes they have gotten. They don’t look at the ground-and-pound game they had to open up the passes. And they use their running backs in the backfield and outside the backfield. I like that too.”
Gibson, who ranks as the No. 19 prospect nationally, is leaning towards Texas according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports. No matter where he ends up, Gibson possess a unique skillset that allows him to work out of the backfield and out wide.
“A running back that really knows how to run a route, for real,” Gibson said. “I feel like I’m the best running back in my class at running routes, hands down. I can go in the slot and really put that work in. Do everything, anything they need me to do.”
