Tennessee football picked up a huge commitment on Saturday night, landing four-star in-state prospect Boo Carter.
Carter’s recruitment came down to Michigan and Tennessee. Michigan hosted Carter for an official visit last weekend and Carter was in Knoxville on Wednesday and Thursday before making his decision on Saturday.
Carter’s college decision was announced on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET at the 40/40 Club in New York. His top five schools included Tennessee, Michigan, Colorado, Ohio State and Oregon. However, Michigan and Tennessee were the front runners for Carter.
Carter ranks as the No. 206 prospect nationally and the No. 17 athlete in his class according to 247Sports Composite. He also ranks as the No. 2 prospect from the state of Tennessee.
Although listed as an athlete, Tennessee viewed 5-foot-10, 184-pound Carter as a defensive back. The Vols were the first school to offer Carter back in May of 2021. The Wolverines saw Carter as a wide receiver, perhaps playing into the decision for him to head to Tennessee.
Both 247Sports’ Crystal Balls point Carter to Tennessee, with Steve Wiltfong projecting he will end up in the orange and white.
Carter spent his junior season at Chattanooga Christian School before transferring to Brainerd for the basketball season. He is spending his senior season at Bradley Central due to TSSAA rules that state he would not be allowed to play a sport at a high school less than 20 miles away from his former school.
He had 678 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground, and he had 36 receptions for 780 yards and 10 TDs through the air for CCS.
Carter joins a Tennessee football 2024 class that is trending upwards. Tennessee’s class ranks No. 15 on 247Sports, but will surely rise after Carter’s commitment.
The 2024 class for the Vols is currently comprised of four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger, four-star athlete Johnathan Echols, four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley, four-star Peyton Lewis, four-star defensive lineman Kellen Lindstrom, four-star athlete Marcus Goree Jr. and three-star defensive linemen Carson Gentle and Jeremais Heard along with three-star offensive linemen Gage Ginther and Jesse Perry and three-star safety Edress Farooq.
