Tennessee football landed another transfer on Thursday, filling another immediate need. Gabe Jeudy-Lally, a defensive back from BYU, announced he was transferring to the Vols.

Jeudy-Lally is familiar with the SEC, spending his first three seasons with Vanderbilt. After transferring to BYU, he started 10 games this past season. He finished with 46 tackles and seven pass breaks ups. During his three seasons at Vanderbilt, he had 50 tackles and one interception.

Jeudy-Lally’s lone interception came from then Tennessee football quarterback J.T. Shrout.

Willie Martinez and Tennessee’s coaching staff sold the Vols for Jeudy-Lally.

“The people in the building, (I) couldn’t really pass up,” Jeudy-Lally told 247Sports. “There’s so much NFL-development talent in there. Coach Willie has sent a lot of guys to the league, so I think he gives me one of the best opportunities to be able to go do that — especially playing in the best conference. And, also, the ability to walk out in December with my master’s degree is also a big push for me. They give me the ability to do that, so that’s really good for me, too.”

Jeudy-Lally will likely be able to compete for a starting spot on day one. The Vols’ pass secondary in 2022 was one of the teams’ weakest points. Tennessee football finished 127th out of 131 FBS schools.

The Vols gave up an average of almost 290 passing yards per game. The 6-foot-2 and 185-pound Jeudy-Lally brings power five experience to a position of need for Tennessee.

Specifically a cornerback, Jeudy-Lally will be competing with Kamal Hadden, Brandon Turnage, Christian Charles and Warren Burrell, who is returning from a season-ending injury. They haven’t found a No. 1 cornerbac since Alontae Taylor, though.

A three-star prospect out of high school, Jeudy-Lally hails from Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, N.C. He was a part of the class of 2019, and ranked as the No. 185 cornerback coming out of high school.

Jeudy-Lally joins fellow BYU teammate Kennan Pili in transferring to Tennessee.
