Tennessee football hosted four-star athlete Daniel Hill during the “865 Live” weekend, and the visit did not disappoint.
Hill, who ranks as the No. 196 prospect according to 247Composite, got to further his relationship with the Vols’ staff during his visit. Tennessee extended Hill a scholarship offer in February.
“My relationship with them is very good ever since they offered me,” Hill said. “They’re on me constantly and as a recruit, that’s what you like out of coaches that are recruiting you.”
Although the 6-foot-1, 220-pound athlete currently plays quarterback for Meridian (Miss.) High School, he likely projects as a running back in college. He currently ranks as the No. 16 athlete in the class and the No. 7 prospect from Mississippi.
Peyton Lewis, class of 2024 running back, committed to Tennessee during the “865 Live” event. Although they play the same position, the Vols would like two running backs in the 2024 class.
“We didn’t talk much, it was good for him to commit though,” Hill said. “He announced it in front of everyone which was a pretty cool experience.”
Hill also got to meet the Vols’ 2024 quarterback commit Jake Merklinger. While the two were “just really getting to know each other,” it’s safe to say there was peer recruiting happening over the weekend.
The “explosiveness” of Tennessee’s offense stood out to Hill, similar to what he does for Meridian now.
“We’re in a spread offense now and I’m playing quarterback,” Hill said. “So we’re going to be a really explosive team this year for sure. We’re going to put a lot of points on the board every game.”
Tennessee has kept the options open as to how they want to utilize Hill, if he were to end up a Vol.
“They said they would utilize my skills as much as they can especially since I’m so versatile,” Hill said.
“I want to be a running back who is able to catch the ball from different areas of the field. I don’t want to strictly just be a running back I want to play a little wide receiver also.”
Currently, Hill has locked in just one official visit with South Carolina. He is “not sure yet” on if Tennessee will get a video, but he holds the Vols in high regard.
“Top 5 for sure,” Hill said of the Vols.
